Fear Isn’t a Swear Word – Divorce Isn’t a Swear Word
Oct 06, 2025Fear doesn’t only show up in divorce. It shows up in every kind of relationship ending - a breakup, a separation, or even the slow unraveling of a partnership or job you thought would last forever.
Fear whispers questions that keep you awake at night.
What if I never find love again? What if I can’t do this on my own? What if my kids resent me? What if everyone sees me as a failure?
I know this fear personally. During my marriage and divorce, it went far beyond worry. It was life-threatening. I was threatened, told I was being followed, and even saw someone I cared about targeted. At the same time, I carried the crushing fear of losing my children and of who would be brought into their lives.
Fear doesn’t end the day a relationship ends. It lingers. It shifts. It settles into your body as sleepless nights, a knot in your stomach, or the heaviness in your chest that never seems to lift.
Fear Is Not a Swear Word
Here’s the truth. Fear isn’t a swear word. Neither is divorce, breakup, separation, or even the loss of a career. They are not signs of failure. They are signals that it is time for a new chapter.
But you can’t move forward on feelings alone. Hope is not a strategy, and fear is not a strategy either.
You need tools.
The This Is NUTS Plan™
That is why I created the This Is NUTS Plan™ because fear will make you feel nuts until you know how to handle it.
- Name it so you can see it clearly.
- Unpack it so you uncover the real question underneath.
- Tackle it with one small step forward.
- Separate it into what you can control and what you cannot.
This plan helps you in the moment when fear is loudest and most overwhelming.
The D.O.N.E. Method™
When you are ready to rebuild the bigger picture, my D.O.N.E. Method™ gives you the roadmap.
Decide what you really want.
Own your story and your power.
Navigate the process with clarity.
Elevate into your next chapter with confidence.
Together, the NUTS Plan™ and the D.O.N.E. Method™ give you both the quick fix and the long-term strategy you need.
Why the Retreat
This November, at the Divorced and Ready to Travel Diaries Retreat at Stonewall Resort in West Virginia, you will learn both of these tools while experiencing a powerful weekend of community, healing, and clarity. There are still spots open for November 7, 8, and 9.
At the retreat, you will join me, Kym Gable, Emmy award-winning journalist and founder of Voice & Vision Speaking Solutions, and Tanya Chaney, somatic and wellness coach and owner of Chaney Wellness.
I will be teaching you how to use the This Is NUTS Plan™ and the D.O.N.E. Method™ to face fear with strategy and strength. Kym will guide you in reclaiming your voice, telling your story with confidence, and stepping forward without shame. Tanya will lead you through body-based practices to release fear from your nervous system so you can finally feel safe again, not just think safe.
Together, we will share workshops, fireside conversations, and meals overlooking the beautiful Stonewall Lake. Two meals and daily snacks are included, with additional restaurants at the resort for you to explore. You’ll leave not only with a plan, but with a community of women who understand and will walk beside you long after the retreat is over.
We are all proud members of the Brave Women Project, and we are coming together to remind you that you are not alone, you are not broken, and you are braver than your fear.
The Bottom Line
Fear isn’t a swear word. Divorce isn’t a swear word. Breakup isn’t a swear word. They are all signals. And when you learn how to harness them, they can become the foundation of your comeback.
